BROMYARD RFC Vice
Presidents Day 20th November 2010 |
November 20th
was a big day for Bromyard, not only were the Town’s Christmas light
turned on but the long awaited “Switch On” of Bromyard Rugby Club’s
new Floodlights took place. The event sees
the culmination of three years effort by immediate past chairman of the
Club, Ed Pitt, to guide the £150,000 project through planning to
completion. Ed’s hard work has been recognised not only by the club, the
town but also by the Bromyard Sports Foundation when he was presented with
the “Andrew Lamb” Silver Salver by Clive Richards OBE DL. The floodlights
enable the 1st XV pitch to illuminated to RFU Level 1, while the second
team pitch is lit to training standard with the possibility of upgrading
in the future. Also in
attendance were Rugby dignitaries, Rob Bray, Steve Guy and Nigel Banwell
representing the RFU who have helped with a substantial grant. Other donations
to the floodlight funds were received from the Foundation for Sports and
Arts, Clive Richards OBE DL., West Mercia Police, CW Garden Marquees and
MA Walsh and Sons. The balance was the result of relentless fundraising by
dedicated Club members. The day started
with a lunch for about 100 Vice Presidents and their guests before
watching the Club’s 1st
and 2nd XVs in action in the afternoon. After the “Switch-On”
the floodlights were put into full use as the under 13 and under15 teams
took on their counterparts from Luctonions Rugby Club.
